Fact: The town of Larned, Kansas, is home to one of the only sand green golf courses still in operation in the United States. Unlike traditional grass greens, sand greens are made of a mixture of sand and oil, requiring players to smooth the surface before putting. These types of courses were once common in the Great Plains due to the region’s arid climate and limited water resources but are now a rare and quirky slice of golf history.
