PGA Coach's Ultimate Guide to Golf Posture: The Engine of Your Swing
Discover how spine angle, pelvic tilt, and weight distribution govern your ability to rotate dynamically and strike the ball flush every time.
Why Posture Dictates Your Swing Path
Your posture at address is the blueprint for your entire golf swing. If your spine angle is incorrect, your body will instinctively compensate during the swing to regain balance, leading to a myriad of faults such as early extension, over-the-top moves, and fat or thin shots.
"You cannot make a dynamic, athletic golf swing from a static, unathletic posture. Setup sets the geometry of the swing."
C-Posture vs. S-Posture vs. Neutral

C-Posture (Slumped)
Characterized by a rounded upper back and slumped shoulders. Limits torso rotation and forces the player to lift the arms independently.

Neutral Posture
Straight, athletic spine from the tailbone to the neck. Hips are hinged back, and knees have a slight flex. Weight is balanced over the shoelaces.

S-Posture (Arched)
Excessive arch in the lower back (sticking the tailbone out too far). Puts massive stress on the lower spine.
3 Steps to Perfect Posture

Stand Tall
Stand perfectly straight with the club out in front of you. Keep your back straight.

Hinge at the Hips
Bow forward from the hips, keeping the spine straight, until the club touches the ground.

Slight Knee Flex
Crack the knees just enough to take the tension out. Do not squat.
