Finding new golf apparel online these days isn’t hard. Since 2020, the game of golf has seen explosive growth, particularly among younger players in the 20–30 age range. These new golfers are less about strict country club etiquette and more about having fun—bringing loud, unique polos, music, and drinks onto the course.

Enter Pins & Aces, a golf apparel company founded in 2018 in Arvada, Colorado, perfectly timed to ride this new wave of golf culture.

Owners Jon Major and Nick Mertz love to share the story of how their business began—one fueled by creativity, timing, and a passion for cigars. It all started when Mertz, working with a cigar company, designed a golf headcover as a crossover accessory. From there, the two brothers-in-law went from selling headcovers out of a garage to building a $20 million business with international sales.

On the topic of headcovers, Major says:

“There are some amazing products out there, but some of them are $120. We wanted to design something that matched your personality with great quality at a very approachable price point. We took a flyer on a few designs, like the American flag and Colorado state flag, and started to see momentum.”

That momentum pushed them into golf apparel in 2020.

“Our foundation is that golf is fun. You don’t have to be serious—show your personality.”

So what makes Pins & Aces stand out in a crowded golf market?

“We’re always going to listen to feedback, value minority opinions, and continue to try to improve. Across the board, we believe our quality-to-price ratio is elite, and that’s where we pride ourselves,” said Major.

One of their most popular and unique products is a beer sleeve that fits right in your golf bag—a huge hit for keeping drinks cold on hot summer rounds.

With 80% of sales coming from online channels, Pins & Aces is planning to grow by expanding into more pro shops while continuing to focus on direct-to-consumer sales.

They’ve also partnered with PGA Tour pro Rafael Campos and local aspiring pro Zachai Brown from Westminster, helping bring even more visibility to the brand.

What’s next for Pins & Aces? According to Major, they plan to expand their apparel line with new hoodies and pullovers. They're also entering the club market through a new partnership with Edel Golf, a custom club maker known for game-changing technology—starting with a distance-enhancing iron.
